About Us
In 1986 Desktop Micros (renamed DMi Technology Group) was started as a PC integration company in the home of Doug and NinaSharp. We ran a small but well connected 4 line bulletin board system that tied to Fidonet interest groups and eventually reached theInternet backbone via modems. Time marched on and Internet mail and connectivity and something called the World Wide Webbecame popular. Networking was in its infancy and companies like Novell and ArtisoftLantastic ruled the networking scene. Can you say coax ?!?!?Times changed and businesses adapt. We were a Microsoft shop producing clones and fastoutgrew being in the home, then our original four person office, then our rented space onEmpire St. to finally move into our present location in Normal. Windows was introduced as were upstart systems from IBM and other providers. We builtpartnerships with Ameritech Data Services and Compaq which evolved into some of the thingswe do today such as Hewlett Packard servers and systems and wireless technologies. In 2002 we were approached to purchased Pro Info Consultants a local company we had beenpartnering for several years we retained their highly experienced staff. Some of Pro InfoConsultants staff memebers have been working on IBM midrange systems for literally decades. This part of the business focuses on theIBM platform and custom programming. This is not your mother’s IBM any more! Cutting edge technologies are what you can expectfrom IBM and DMi Technology Group these days. Many of our IBM customers are in the manufacturing and distribution verticalsHowever the robust IBM platform lends itself to a muriad of business models. Midrange IBM Servers (despite what some would have you believe) has great value far beyond "legacy". The most stable databaseplatform on earth might just be DB2. IBM midrange based on Power processors and DB2 as a part of the operating system. Web,Windows or green screen with heads down order entry are common place. All this is possible with no DB admin or internal staffing.Midrange is l very cost effective to run enterprises or even medium businesses on with less overall IT cost. To find out more about ourIBM Solutions click here.Things have come full circle and terms like “virtual” and “cloud” we are very familiar with but these were known as time sharing andservice bureaus long before the buzz words you hear now. Internet is something we have chosen to resell via large international ISP'ssuch as Sprint. We offer colocation, cloud services and managed IT all based on our own best of breed selections. When you have time, please check out the "Managed Services" link under services. This is the way many companies are able to ensure uptime and stablesystems without having large in-house staffs to manage everything. If you need IT (and let’s face it....who doesn’t ? ), you want to have professionals do it right either to manage that entire side of yourbusiness or simply to host some of your critical services . We want to be that your IT partner at whatever level fits your needs andbudget. The lights are still on and we are here to help 35+ years strong.
